Elvis recorded "She's Not You" on March 19, 1962 at RCA Studio B in Nashville.
It was written by Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller and Doc Pomus.
Talented guitarist Hank Garland had been severely hurt in an automobile accident
some time earlier and it took two top Nashville players to fill in for him. Both
Harold Bradley and Grady Martin joined Scotty Moore on guitar for this song.
Also playing were Bob Moore (bass), D. J. Fontana (drums), Buddy Harman (drums)
and Boots Randolph (saxophone). The Jordanaires and Millie Kirkham
were the backup vocalists.
A splice of takes was shipped out on July 17, 1962 with the B-side "Just Tell
Her Jim Said Hello". "She's Not You" had a 10-week run on Billboard's pop
singles chart, peaking at #5. It hit #13 on Billboard's R&B singles chart. It
hit #1 for 3 of its 14 weeks on the British pop singles chart.
Others who have recorded the song include the Pet Shop Boys, the Bellamy
Brothers, and Willie Nelson.
