Elvis recorded this song on January 22, 1969 at American Studio in Memphis, the
last song recorded at this session. It was written by Mark James who had
recorded and released the song the year before with little success. The same
musicians who played on "In the Ghetto" with Elvis played on this session, with
horns and backing vocals added later.
Take number 8 was chosen for the single and paired with "You'll Think of Me" as
the B-side. The record shipped on August 26,1969. "Suspicious Minds" hit #1 on
the Billboard pop singles chart for 1 week in its 15-week run on the chart. It
peaked at #2 on in its 14-week run on the British pop singles chart. This
recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.
