Released in time for Valentine's Day 1998, Love
Songs is one of many thematic repackagings of Elvis material RCA has
released over the years. This time, the theme is fairly simple -- 18
love songs, both ballads and rockers, about love won and love lost.
To be sure, there are a lot of great, albeit familiar, songs here --
"Are You Lonesome Tonight?," "It's Now or Never," "Can't Help
Falling In Love," "Good Luck Charm," "Suspicious Minds," "Kentucky
Rain," "Love Me Tender" -- but anyone with an interest in Elvis will
probably own all of this material already, with the possible
exception of the relatively obscure single, "I'm Leavin'." Love
Songs works fairly well as its own entity, and it's nice to hear
these songs grouped together, but it's an entirely unnecessary
release.. (AllMusic Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine
